Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress has proposed a nationwide campaign programme ahead of the 2027 elections, with President Bola Tinubu expected to attend rallies in 12 states between October 2026 and January 2027.
The schedule, which the APC said remains subject to change, would begin in Kaduna on 24 October and include appearances in Rivers, Plateau, Oyo, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano and Adamawa states. A final rally is proposed for Lagos on 9 January. The wider programme is intended to cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, challenged Tinubu to personally defend his first-term record before seeking another mandate. In a statement issued by campaign spokesperson Phrank Shaibu, Atiku cited unaffordable food, difficulty paying for medicines, weak purchasing power and limited job opportunities among his criticisms.
Tinubu’s information adviser, Bayo Onanuga, defended the administration, pointing to falling food prices and inflation, higher foreign reserves, improved foreign-exchange access and renewed investment. He also said support from 33 governors reflected confidence in Tinubu’s leadership.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda predicted Tinubu would receive more than 70 per cent of northern votes, citing road, rail, healthcare and education initiatives. Separately, APC-aligned groups in Kwara and Lagos announced grassroots and youth mobilisation efforts supporting the president’s re-election. In Edo, Israel Afeare, an aide to musician Davido, disputed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s pledge to deliver 2.5 million votes for Tinubu and endorsed Atiku.
