An Air India flight from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday after the aircraft transmitted squawk code 7500, an aviation code indicating unlawful interference.
Flight AI2030, a Boeing 787-9 carrying 293 passengers and 13 crew members, landed safely at Jaipur International Airport at about 9:35 a.m. The aircraft was moved to an isolation bay, while passengers were taken to the terminal and security agencies inspected the plane and conducted checks.
The code was transmitted while the aircraft was in the Mumbai Flight Information Region, according to security sources cited by The Hindu and The Indian Express. The Indian Express reported that air traffic control questioned the pilots, who said they had not transmitted the code and that operations were normal. Authorities nevertheless diverted the flight under security protocols.
Officials offered differing preliminary explanations. Sources cited by The Hindu said the code had been activated by a technical glitch, while Jaipur airport head Charan Singh told The Indian Express that the pilot may have issued it by mistake. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation will investigate the incident, according to a senior official cited by The Hindu.
Air India said security agencies cleared the aircraft and crew after completing the necessary checks. Passengers reboarded the same aircraft, which continued to Delhi with the same crew and landed at about 3:10 p.m.
