Saudi-led coalition forces reported intercepting missiles and drones over several parts of Saudi Arabia amid intensified fighting with Yemen’s Houthis.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki said three drones were destroyed over southern Saudi Arabia and the Riyadh area, two cruise missiles over the Red Sea and a ballistic missile over Yanbu. The coalition separately said it intercepted two ballistic missiles aimed at Khamis Mushait and a cruise missile over the Medina region. The Houthis denied conducting an operation against Saudi territory on Thursday after the Medina announcement.
Earlier attacks around Riyadh and Dhahran caused injuries and damage. Saudi authorities said falling debris from two intercepted missiles injured four people in Riyadh and damaged 15 homes. A fire also broke out at Saudi Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran after a suspected Houthi attack. The Saudi Energy Ministry said the fire was limited and caused no casualties; a company source told Reuters that a ballistic missile struck the upper floors of an office building.
The Saudi-led coalition also struck a fuel facility in Yemen’s Houthi-held capital, Sanaa, saying it was used to store missiles and drones. The Yemeni Oil Company said the storage facilities were empty and that the strike did not affect local fuel supplies.
The UN Security Council condemned the escalating Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait.
