A large overnight drone attack struck oil and commercial facilities in St. Petersburg on Sunday, killing at least one person and injuring five, according to regional officials.
St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov said fires broke out at the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal, the Ruchyi oil depot and industrial warehouses. Twelve apartment buildings and two homes were damaged, while flights at Pulkovo Airport were temporarily restricted.
VKontakte said a drone targeted its regional data center, although its services continued operating. Russian retailer Ozon said its logistics center was also hit and caught fire, prompting an evacuation without reported injuries among staff.
In the surrounding Leningrad region, Governor Alexander Drozdenko said air defenses downed 144 Ukrainian drones. A strike on a substation left about 20,000 people without power in Yanino, while a woman and three children were hospitalized with symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning after falling drone debris caused a house fire. Russia’s Defense Ministry said more than 1,000 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across the country overnight. Kyiv had not publicly commented on the St. Petersburg strikes.
The attack followed the collapse of an “energy ceasefire” announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of striking Ukrainian energy, oil and gas facilities 76 times since that announcement. Ukraine had briefly paused attacks on Russian oil sites before resuming them, while accusing Moscow of continuing attacks on its power infrastructure.
