Polish police have detained a man suspected of planning attacks against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, according to Polish officials.

The Interior Ministry said police received credible information about possible attacks on the two officials. Security services convened a special meeting on Sunday, and a spokesman said authorities were treating the threat as “deadly serious.”

The information emerged after the State Protection Service, which is responsible for ministers’ security, forwarded police an email concerning a potential attack, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka said.

The suspect, a Polish national, was arrested in the Lower Silesia region, Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesman for the Special Services Co-ordinator, told local media. Dobrzynski said officials believed there was a strong likelihood the alleged threats could have been carried out.

Tusk confirmed the detention and thanked police for their “swift and decisive action.” Officials did not immediately provide further details about the suspect or the alleged plans.
