Christiane Amanpour, CNN’s chief international anchor, will leave the network at the end of June 2027, concluding a career with CNN spanning 43 years.
“After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years,” Amanpour, 68, said Monday. She said she plans to pursue new projects and continue *The Ex Files*, the podcast she hosts with her former husband, Jamie Rubin.
Her current CNN International program and PBS’s *Amanpour & Company* are scheduled to end as daily programs in December 2026. CNN said her namesake program will move to a weekly schedule in early 2027 and conclude in May, before she formally leaves the network the following month.
Amanpour began at CNN in the early 1980s and became known for reporting on international conflicts and crises, including the Gulf War, the Bosnian War, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Iraq and Ukraine. She served as CNN’s chief international correspondent from 1992 to 2010, briefly left for ABC News and returned to CNN in 2012.
CNN chief executive Mark Thompson said he and Amanpour had discussed the decision for several months and that he had accepted it was the right time for her personally and professionally. Her announcement came shortly after Skydance took control of CNN’s parent company, but no confirmed link between the ownership change and her departure was reported.
