TikTok has permanently suspended the promotional account for *Musk*, Alex Gibney’s nearly four-hour documentary about Elon Musk, as the film expands to more than 470 screens across North America.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, distributor Bleecker Street was informed Friday that the account would be suspended because of political-policy violations. A notice cited the severity of the violations and said some could trigger immediate suspension, but did not identify specific posts. TikTok had not publicly commented on the decision.
Bleecker Street said it was appealing the suspension. The distributor had planned to pay to boost posts on the platform, and said the timing could hurt promotion during the film’s wider-release weekend. The account had accumulated more than 10,000 followers.
Two posts appeared shortly before the suspension. One jokingly advised viewers what to do during the documentary’s intermission, including deleting their X accounts and switching seats if they were “too far to the right.” Another urged audiences to see the film “before it gets shut down.”
*Musk* grossed about $70,000 from four theaters in New York and Los Angeles during its opening weekend before expanding more broadly. Meta and YouTube initially rejected trailer advertisements but later permitted them, describing the earlier rejections as an error or saying the trailer had been cleared. X, which Musk owns, and TikTok have continued to reject paid advertising for the film.
