Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made their first joint public appearance since returning to live in the United Kingdom, visiting charities in Nottingham on Thursday.
The couple were greeted by cheering crowds as they arrived at the Community Recording Studio, where they spoke with well-wishers, posed for photographs and accepted flowers. Meghan told members of the crowd, “It’s great to be back,” according to reports carried by AFP and the South China Morning Post.
Harry and Meghan were scheduled to visit three Nottingham organizations supporting young people and local communities through music, film, sport and efforts to address food poverty.
The visit returned the couple to the city where they made their first joint public appearance after announcing their engagement in 2017. They stepped back from duties as working members of the royal family in 2020 and later settled in California. According to AFP, they moved back to the UK with their children in August.
A letter issued by the Lord Chamberlain last month reiterated that the couple no longer undertake representative duties for the monarch and said their position would remain distinct from the state and royal responsibilities performed by working members of the royal family.
