Management of Riyadh’s 99-story Kingdom Centre ordered office employees to work remotely until further notice as Houthi missile and drone attacks continued to disrupt Saudi Arabia.
The directive took effect immediately, according to an email reported by Agence France-Presse. Management did not give a reason, while the shopping center at the tower’s base remained open. Tenants include the International Monetary Fund, Merrill Lynch and McKinsey & Company.
Saudi authorities said two drones were intercepted over the Riyadh area overnight, while another was downed over the oil-rich Eastern Province and two ballistic missiles were intercepted in southern Saudi Arabia. Civil defense officials also said six people were injured when a projectile struck a residential neighborhood in Najran, damaging three homes and three vehicles.
Schools in Riyadh and surrounding areas were set to continue online instruction for a second week. Operations at King Khalid International Airport have also been disrupted following an earlier Houthi attack that Fox News reported killed 13 people and wounded more than 300.
The Saudi-led coalition separately said two crew members died when an AH-6i reconnaissance helicopter crashed near the Yemeni border because of a technical malfunction. The Houthis had earlier claimed they shot down a Saudi Apache helicopter.
The latest attacks follow renewed fighting between the Saudi-led coalition and the Iran-backed Houthis after the group seized strategic territory along Yemen’s Red Sea coast last month.
