Porsche has unveiled the Mission S, a concept previewing a new mid-engined supercar that will become a permanent model above the 911 in its lineup.
The car was presented in New York as part of Porsche’s “Sportwagenschmiede ’35” strategy, which is intended to emphasize higher-value, lower-volume vehicles and strengthen the company’s sports-car identity. Chief executive Michael Leiters described the planned production model as a driver-focused super sports car and said its flexible platform could support either a hybrid or a combustion-only powertrain, with the eventual range determined by customer demand.
Unlike limited-production flagships such as the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder, the new model is expected to be a regular Porsche product without a predetermined production cap.
The Mission S combines a low, wide stance with references to several historic Porsches. Its round headlights and prominent fenders evoke the 911, while the flat nose and rear architecture draw from the 911 GT1. The roofline and wraparound rear wing recall the 959, and a central rear cooling aperture references the 917. The wheels reinterpret the dial-style design associated with the 928.
Inside, Porsche mixes digital technology with physical controls and analogue-inspired instruments. A five-dial cluster places a physical-needle rev counter over a digital display, while the cabin also includes tactile dashboard controls, a left-side ignition-key holder and a retractable MagSafe-compatible smartphone mount.
