New York City police are searching for a suspect who fatally shot a man on a Midtown Manhattan subway platform Saturday afternoon.
The shooting occurred at about 12:21 p.m. on the northbound E train platform at the 53rd Street–Seventh Avenue station, according to the NYPD. Police said the gunman displayed a firearm and fired, striking the victim once in the chest. The victim, described as a man in his 30s, was taken by emergency medical personnel to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue, where he was pronounced dead. His identity had not been released.
Police released surveillance images showing a person sought in the homicide wearing a red tracksuit, black vest and black face mask and carrying a backpack. The suspect fled the station on foot and headed north on Seventh Avenue, the NYPD said.
The shooting was reported by several New York news outlets, with amNewYork reporting that it followed an argument on the platform. Police had not announced an arrest, and the investigation remained underway.
