Elon Musk said Monday that he plans to give one SpaceX share to every child in the United States next year, a pledge currently valued at more than $10 billion.

“Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America,” Musk wrote on X, adding, “This will be the first of many.” He did not specify eligibility requirements, timing or how the shares would be distributed.

The United States has roughly 72 million to 73 million children under 18, according to census figures cited by several outlets. At SpaceX’s Friday closing price of $146.03, distributing one share to each child would be worth approximately $10.5 billion to $10.7 billion.

President Donald Trump said the stock would be distributed through Trump Accounts, tax-advantaged investment accounts established for children under federal law. Musk has not independently confirmed that mechanism, although he thanked technology investor Brad Gerstner for helping enable the effort. Treasury rules allow donors to contribute individual-company stock to the accounts.

Musk announced the pledge after Anthropic said it planned to commit at least 5% of its shares to a public benefit fund that could support nonprofits or make direct distributions to selected groups. Responding to Anthropic’s announcement, Musk recommended giving shares “directly to the public” and said that was what he intended to do.
