Delhi Police have denied permission for singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert scheduled for October 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Scroll.in reported, citing PTI.
Police did not clear the event because of threat-related information and heightened security requirements during the festive season, according to ANI. The deputy commissioner of police in South Delhi reportedly conveyed the decision to ticketing platform BookMyShow. Diwali is due to be celebrated on November 8.
The Delhi performance was intended to begin the India leg of Dosanjh’s Aura India Tour. Concerts remain scheduled in Indore, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh during November and December.
Aam Aadmi Party leader Jarnail Singh questioned the stated reason for denying permission. Singh asked whether security concerns were being used as an “excuse” and why the issue had not been addressed through advance planning.
