President Donald Trump said he plans to spend more than $400 million to support Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, as the party seeks to retain control of both chambers of Congress.
In a Truth Social post Tuesday, Trump said more than $300 million had already gone toward advertising, voter contact, rallies, get-out-the-vote efforts and “election integrity,” but he did not provide a detailed breakdown. MAGA Inc, a Trump-aligned super PAC, reported $415.8 million in cash entering September. The Campaign Legal Center has accused Trump of improperly claiming control over the group’s spending, which legally must remain independent of candidates’ campaigns.
At a Tuesday rally in Greenville, North Carolina, Trump also tied federal action to Republican victories. He said his administration would settle remaining legitimate claims involving contaminated water at Camp Lejeune if Republicans retained Congress, adding, “If we don’t win, there’s no money.” He also pledged a $1.5 billion Defense Department investment in semiconductor production in the state.
A Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos survey found that seven in 10 Americans lacked confidence Trump would accept the election results if Republicans lost. At the same time, 60% said they were confident the midterms would be fair, while 65% trusted that ballots would be counted accurately. Confidence in election fairness stood at 70% among Democrats, 67% among Republicans and 51% among independents.
