Dozens of French students gathered outside the Louvre Museum in Paris on Monday and attempted to block access to the landmark, according to France 24. Al Jazeera reported that students were blockading the museum as part of a wider student movement.
The action came as France faced continued demonstrations, including the Yellow Vest protests. France 24 said calls were spreading on social media for additional protests on October 24 and 31.
French authorities planned to deploy 70,000 officers for Saturday’s protests, AP reported. The Louvre and two other major museums were set to close that day, while businesses prepared by boarding up their premises. The New York Times also reported that authorities banned some protests following riots.
