Indian actor Tiger Shroff escaped serious injury after gunmen opened fire on his car near a football ground in Mumbai’s Juhu area on October 18, according to local reports. His driver, Firdaus, was wounded in the left hand, while bystander and vlogger Umesh Chauhan suffered a gunshot wound near his liver.
Chauhan underwent a two-hour operation at KEM Hospital on October 20 to remove a 1.5-centimetre bullet. Doctors said they delayed surgery while monitoring him for internal bleeding because he was stable and the bullet posed no immediate threat. Shroff’s team later released a video showing small red marks on his arm that it described as pellet injuries.
Police had arrested 10 people by October 22 in connection with the attack, including three alleged shooters detained at Kota railway station in Rajasthan. The Hindu reported that investigators believe the operation involved about a month of surveillance, a weapon transported from Punjab to Mumbai and an escape route through Gujarat.
Four suspects arrested by Delhi Police are accused of procuring and transporting a pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition. Police allege that Kunal, one of those detained, acted on instructions from Anil Pandit, a suspected overseas-based coordinator linked in reports to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. A purported online audio message attributed to Pandit claimed responsibility, but that claim has not been independently verified.
A lawyer for one accused, Phool Singh, said documents show his client is a minor and alleged that police failed to follow juvenile-justice and arrest procedures. Mumbai police are continuing to investigate the conspiracy and have not recovered the weapon, according to The Indian Express.
