IndiGo and Air India Express plan to move selected flights from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) as the operator prepares for redevelopment work at CSMIA’s Terminal 1.
IndiGo will transfer 12 daily international departures to NMIA in phases between February and July 2027. The affected services connect Mumbai with Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta. It will also introduce a daily Kathmandu flight, bringing its NMIA international network to 12 destinations. Some domestic operations will move as well to support connecting passengers.
Air India Express will begin four daily domestic flights from NMIA in December 2026, according to The Indian Express. It plans to start Kuwait service and move existing Oman service there in January 2027, subject to required approvals, followed by a phased transition of flights to Jeddah, Muscat, Riyadh and Sharjah by October 2027.
The moves come amid disagreements between Mumbai International Airport Limited and carriers over a broader traffic-reallocation plan. The operator has proposed reducing CSMIA’s annual passenger capacity by five million from March 2027 and cutting international operations at Terminal 2 by 265 weekly flights to accommodate traffic displaced during Terminal 1 redevelopment.
The Mumbai Airlines Operators Committee has requested detailed information on the redevelopment’s schedule, scope and phasing ahead of an October 28 stakeholder meeting, while reiterating its support for immediate work on Terminal 1.
