At least 12 people, including six juveniles, were injured Saturday night in a shooting near Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, authorities said. Eleven victims sustained gunshot wounds, and another person was injured.
The shooting occurred near the university’s football stadium following a homecoming game, in an area described as crowded. Tallahassee police said a preliminary investigation indicated that a physical altercation occurred before gunfire broke out.
Police initially reported that at least three victims were seriously injured and nine were in stable condition. Fox News later reported that five victims had been released from the hospital and one remained in critical condition.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said no arrests had been made at the time of his initial remarks. The department’s violent crimes unit is investigating and has asked the public to provide any information that could assist the inquiry.
Florida A&M said the shooting happened near its campus and that the campus remained safe. The university said the safety of its students, faculty and staff remained its highest priority.
