Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s Telugu period drama *Ranabaali* earned about ₹52 crore worldwide during its first five days, according to *The Indian Express*, as director Rahul Sankrityan discussed a possible sequel.

The film opened in India with ₹9.25 crore net and reached ₹36.9 crore during its opening weekend, the newspaper reported, citing industry tracker Sacnilk. Its domestic collection stood at about ₹36 crore net after five days, including ₹5.4 crore on Monday, indicating a decline after the opening. The film reportedly had a budget of ₹150 crore.

Set during the Great Madras Famine of 1876-78, *Ranabaali* stars Deverakonda as Singanamalla Bobbili Ranabaali, a fictional Rayalaseema chieftain inspired by three palegars. Mandanna plays his wife, Jayamma, while Arnold Vosloo portrays British antagonist Sir Theodore Hector. The film was released on October 16 and is Deverakonda and Mandanna’s first project together since their February wedding.

Sankrityan told iDream Media that unresolved plotlines could support another film, including the fate of Ranabaali, his son and a British officer who escapes during a port battle. He also said supporting characters such as Goudappa have unexplored backstories.

Ahead of the release, Deverakonda said the production drew on historical gazettes and books and sought to depict the famine, British policies and regional culture. The filmmakers also released a four-part video series, *Never Forget*, about the period and the film’s historical context.
