President Bola Tinubu formally sought support for a second term on Saturday as the All Progressives Congress launched its 2027 presidential campaign in Kaduna, while party officials and allied groups intensified mobilisation in several regions.
Tinubu told the rally that another mandate would allow his administration to continue its economic reforms and development projects. He urged eligible voters to obtain Permanent Voter Cards and blamed previous administrations for hunger and poverty criticised by the opposition.
Kaduna Governor Uba Sani said voters should assess Tinubu on his performance rather than regional considerations. He cited federal spending on roads, improved security and the reopening of schools and health centres in Kaduna, along with student loans and vocational training. Vice President Kashim Shettima also pointed to education and infrastructure projects, while APC national chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said a second term would allow Tinubu to consolidate his reforms. Works Minister David Umahi reported progress on federal road projects across the North-west.
The rally included the presentation of party flags to seven APC governorship candidates in the region.
Separate endorsements and campaign activity were reported elsewhere. Former Ekiti Peoples Democratic Party secretary Funmilayo Ogun, who recently joined the APC, pledged to campaign for Tinubu. Support groups and youth leaders announced mobilisation efforts in Ekiti and Akwa Ibom, while Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu met Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, to coordinate grassroots outreach in the South-South and South-East.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential election for January 16, 2027.
