Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Indian Air Force’s “Wings over Ganges” air show at Namo Ghat in Varanasi on Sunday, October 25, as part of events marking the IAF’s 94th anniversary.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath joined Modi on the final day of the three-day show. The display featured aircraft including the Sukhoi-30 MKI, the indigenous Tejas fighter and the Light Combat Helicopter Prachand. The Surya Kiran aerobatic team and Sarang helicopter display team also performed, while Kiran aircraft flew in a formation displaying the colours of India’s flag and Mi-17 helicopters participated in an Omkar formation.
Crowds gathered along Modi’s route from the police lines to Namo Ghat, where residents and BJP workers welcomed him with rose petals, music and cultural performances.
Earlier Sunday, Modi inaugurated a new garment manufacturing facility operated by Arvind Ltd in Varanasi’s Mirzamurad area. Officials said the predominantly women-led facility would create employment and support textile and apparel manufacturing in the region.
Modi was also scheduled to visit Bhubaneswar to inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India’s new data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute. According to an official statement, the Tier IV-certified facility includes four data centres intended to host critical payment and settlement systems, while the institute will provide cybersecurity and enterprise-technology training and research.
