A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a shooting near Florida A&M University in Tallahassee injured 12 people, including six minors, on Saturday night, police said.
Anthony Rivers III faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a delinquent. A judge ordered him held in secure detention during a juvenile court hearing Monday. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said the investigation remains active and additional arrests are possible.
The shooting occurred shortly before 8 p.m. near Bragg Memorial Stadium, where a homecoming football game had recently ended. Police said gunfire followed an altercation between two groups whose members knew one another. None of those wounded was believed to have been an intended target.
Eleven victims suffered gunshot wounds, while another person injured an ankle while fleeing. Six adults and six minors were hurt. Police said three victims were seriously wounded, including one who remained in critical condition; five others had been released from the hospital by Sunday.
Officers carried some victims through the crowded scene to emergency responders. Investigators have asked the public to provide cellphone video and other information that could help establish what happened.
