Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress has stepped up preparations for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, launching its presidential campaign in Kaduna and expanding mobilisation efforts across several regions.
At Saturday’s campaign flag-off, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda said Tinubu deserved a second term to consolidate his administration’s reforms. He said the campaign would focus on the government’s record, ongoing policies and future plans. Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Assembly leaders, governors and other party officials attended the event.
The party’s organisational push also included Tinubu’s appointment of Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo as director of air mobilisation for the campaign, Premium Times reported. Keyamo’s directorate will coordinate campaign air travel and aviation logistics nationwide. Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku and Nigerian Airspace Management Agency Managing Director Farouk Umar were named deputy directors. A statement announcing the appointments said campaign activities must remain separate from government functions and comply with aviation-safety requirements and electoral law.
Separately, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu met former militant leader Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, to coordinate grassroots outreach in the South-South and South-East. Pro-Tinubu groups and APC supporters also announced mobilisation drives in Ekiti, Akwa Ibom and Ogun states, while former Sokoto deputy governor Mukhtar Shagari urged northern voters to support the president.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the presidential election for January 16, 2027.
