The Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 10-1 on Monday night, taking a 3-0 lead in the World Series and moving within one victory of their first championship.
Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang helped drive an eight-run fifth inning in Tampa. Milwaukee produced a postseason-record seven consecutive hits with two outs during the rally, which included Turang’s two-run single, RBI hits by Garrett Mitchell and David Hamilton, a two-run double from Cooper Pratt and run-scoring doubles by Sal Frelick and Chourio.
Chourio finished 4-for-5, while William Contreras went 3-for-5 as the Brewers collected 16 hits. Milwaukee has won eight consecutive postseason games, including four straight on the road.
Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser allowed one hit and faced the minimum 18 batters through six innings. After Yandy Díaz opened the first with a single, Gasser retired 14 straight before issuing a sixth-inning walk; a caught stealing and a double play kept him at the minimum.
Rays starter Freddy Peralta was charged with five runs and seven hits in 4⅔ innings. Tampa Bay had lost the first two games in Milwaukee by one run, including a 3-2 defeat in the opener after a replay review extended the ninth inning.
Game 4 is scheduled for Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Of the previous 25 teams to take a 3-0 World Series lead, 21 completed a sweep and four won in five games.
