Yemen’s Houthi movement said Tuesday that it had attacked Saudi oil infrastructure, including the Ras Tanura refinery and East-West oil pumping stations, as missile and drone strikes against the kingdom intensified.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said a ballistic missile caused a fire at Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia’s largest refinery. Saudi authorities had not confirmed the claimed strike. Bloomberg News reported, citing a person familiar with the matter, that a fire near the Ras Tanura oil terminal had been contained earlier Tuesday. Reuters separately reported the Houthi claim of attacks on East-West pumping stations without Saudi confirmation.
Saudi Arabia also reported damage in Riyadh after intercepting two Houthi missiles, according to The National. In recent days, Saudi-led forces have reported intercepting missiles and drones over several regions, including Riyadh, Madina and Mecca province.
The latest claims follow attacks on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and Saudi energy sites. Saudi authorities said the airport strike killed a Saudi citizen and an Indian national and wounded eight others. Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said an attempted drone attack near Aramco’s Shaybah facility occurred outside its perimeter and did not disrupt operations.
Oil prices rose after the attacks heightened concerns about supply disruptions. Brent crude climbed above $112 a barrel last Thursday, while West Texas Intermediate approached $100. The U.S. Embassy in Riyadh has ordered non-emergency government employees and their families to leave Saudi Arabia, warning of possible further attacks and travel disruption.
