Prince Harry has said he wants to repair his strained relationships with his father, King Charles III, and his brother, Prince William, after returning with his family to live in the United Kingdom.
“Some people don’t want it to work out. I want it to work out,” the Duke of Sussex said in a GQ interview published Tuesday. “With everything else that’s going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile.”
Harry said disagreements between siblings and ruptures between parents and children were “massively relatable.” While acknowledging that emotional scars remain, he encouraged people to reconsider painful experiences and let go of the past.
He said returning to Britain had created opportunities for his family, including allowing his children, Archie and Lilibet, to attend a British school. The children were “loving it,” he said, adding that being in the country for longer stretches also placed him closer to his relatives.
Harry also gave a brief update on Charles following the king’s cancer treatment, saying, “He’s getting better.”
Reflecting on the 1997 death of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, Harry said he can now carry her memory through his work rather than be held back by grief. He rejected suggestions that he wanted sympathy, noting that he had a support network, had undergone different forms of therapy and had “put in the work.”
