Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday, ending the La Liga leaders’ nine-match winning start to the season.

Real took the lead in the 41st minute when Barcelona defender Gerard Martín failed to clear a ball into the penalty area and it deflected off Mbappé into the net. The French forward also had a goal ruled out for offside before halftime.

Barcelona equalized in the 61st minute. Pedri played Raphinha through near the edge of the area, and the Brazilian finished with his left foot. Mbappé then scored the winner in the 87th minute, converting into an empty net after Eduardo Camavinga went past the goalkeeper and delivered the ball from the right.

The two goals took Mbappé to 100 for Real Madrid in all competitions. He has scored eight times in seven Clásico appearances.

The victory was Real Madrid’s fifth consecutive win across all competitions. José Mourinho’s third-place side moved to 24 points, three behind Barcelona and one behind Atlético Madrid. Barcelona suffered its second straight defeat after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League earlier in the week.
