Senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan met Iranian leaders in Tehran on Monday and agreed to continue discussions on regional peace and security amid efforts to prevent renewed conflict in the Middle East.
The visit was the first joint trip to Tehran by representatives of the three countries since they formed the Mecca defence pact in August. The delegation included Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin. They met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Supreme National Security Council secretary-general Mohsen Rezaei.
A Saudi foreign ministry statement said the visit was intended to “de-escalate between the parties to the current crisis.” Iranian state media reported that the participants agreed to maintain dialogue and strengthen cooperation, including on regional peace and security, but announced no concrete measures.
Rezaei described the discussions as “very good” and said the participants shared the view that regional countries should provide their own security and prevent foreign intervention. According to a joint statement cited by Türkiye Today, the talks also covered Israel’s activities and developments in Palestine and Lebanon.
Pezeshkian said Iran was prepared to deepen regional cooperation and resolve differences. The Indian Express reported that Iran’s nuclear programme was not discussed.
