Microsoft reported $92.3 billion in revenue for the first quarter of its 2027 fiscal year, up 19% from a year earlier, as rapid growth in its Azure cloud business offset declines in Windows and Xbox-related operations.
Azure generated $33.2 billion in the July-to-September quarter, its first quarterly revenue disclosure in dollars, and grew 48% year over year. The figure exceeded the $32.3 billion analysts expected and Microsoft’s earlier growth forecast of 44% to 45%, according to TechCrunch. Azure accounted for about 36% of Microsoft’s total revenue.
The company also reorganized its financial reporting around two segments. Agents and Infra, which includes Azure, Microsoft 365 and server products, produced $76.8 billion, up 25%, and represented 83% of total revenue. Devices and Consumer, encompassing Windows, Xbox, Surface, search and advertising, fell 3% to $15.5 billion. Windows OEM and devices revenue declined 22%, with Microsoft citing a weaker PC market, inventory reductions and a difficult comparison with the previous year’s Windows 10 support deadline.
The Verge reported net income of $33.6 billion, a 32% increase. Microsoft nearly doubled spending on property and equipment to $39 billion from the year-earlier period, according to The Hindu. The results came days after the company offered voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees. Microsoft shares rose more than 5% after the report.
