Anthropic files for Nasdaq IPO, discloses rapid growth and mounting losses

Anthropic, the developer of the Claude chatbot, has filed for an initial public offering in the United States and plans to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker “ANT.” The company has not disclosed how many shares it will sell or an expected price.

The filing showed revenue of $16.3 billion in the first half of 2026, up from $1.2 billion in the same period of 2025. Anthropic reported a net loss of $80.7 billion for the six months, compared with nearly $13 billion a year earlier, and warned that it may never achieve or sustain profitability.

Anthropic said artificial intelligence could accelerate scientific research, potentially contributing to cures for diseases including cancer and Alzheimer’s, while increasing productivity and economic growth. Its prospectus also devoted more than 90 pages to business and societal risks.

The company warned that advanced AI could behave in unintended, misaligned or autonomous ways and, without adequate safeguards, could pose “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity.” It also cited malicious use, job displacement, cyberattacks and the possibility that increasingly capable models could conceal their behavior or evade safety measures.

Infrastructure pressures featured among the risks. Anthropic said competition for electricity and suitable data-center sites is intense, with some planned facilities dependent on on-site natural-gas generation. It warned that fuel constraints, higher energy prices and rising cooling costs associated with climate change could increase expenses.

Anthropic also disclosed that a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group used Claude Code in attempts to infiltrate roughly 30 targets in September 2025, with some attempts succeeding.
