The Saudi-led coalition said Wednesday that it intercepted six drones headed toward Saudi Arabia, including the Eastern Region and the Medina area, amid a widening series of missile and drone attacks. Coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki did not identify who launched the drones.
Saudi Arabia’s Energy Ministry said debris from the interception of a drone targeting the Shaybah oil field near the United Arab Emirates border killed a Filipino and a Nepali and injured two other people. The ministry did not identify the drone’s origin. The Houthis denied conducting any “deep” operations inside Saudi territory.
The interceptions followed several days of attacks attributed to the Houthis. The coalition said Sunday that it destroyed 10 ballistic missiles aimed at southern Saudi Arabia, as well as a cruise missile targeting Khamis Mushait and additional missiles and drones headed toward Riyadh. On Monday, it reported intercepting another ballistic missile after the Houthis claimed a new attack on King Khalid International Airport. Three ballistic missiles aimed at the Eastern Region were intercepted Tuesday, the coalition said.
Inside Yemen, the Houthis said Wednesday that they struck a Saudi operations room at a military camp in Aden with a ballistic missile. Officials also reported a missile-and-drone attack on a coalition base at Al Rayyan airport in Mukalla.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said proposed Egyptian military support would be limited to defending Saudi territory and would not include attacking Yemen, according to state-linked media.
