Yemen’s Houthi movement said Tuesday that it struck Saudi Arabia’s Ras Tanura oil refinery with a ballistic missile, while Saudi authorities reported intercepting two missiles over Riyadh amid an escalation in cross-border attacks.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the refinery strike caused a fire. Saudi authorities did not confirm that the facility had been hit, although Bloomberg reported, citing a person familiar with the matter, that a fire near the Ras Tanura terminal had been contained. Ras Tanura is Saudi Arabia’s largest refinery and includes a major Gulf shipping terminal.
The Houthis also claimed attacks on military transport aircraft at Najran Airport, an airbase in Khamis Mushait, the Saudi Defence Ministry in Riyadh and Abha airport. Saudi officials did not immediately confirm those claims.
The Saudi-led coalition said it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles launched toward Riyadh. Saudi Civil Defence reported that falling debris damaged a building, a construction site and a vehicle, without reporting casualties.
The Houthis separately said they had stopped an advance by Saudi-backed forces near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Saudi-backed Yemeni forces reported extensive strikes against Houthi positions as part of their “Dawn of Yemen” offensive, while Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah television reported Saudi strikes on Mocha. The competing battlefield claims could not be independently verified.
