President Donald Trump canceled planned weekend campaign rallies in Kansas and Iowa as Republicans made their final push before the November 3 midterm elections.
The Republican National Committee said the in-person events would no longer take place because the party was “in a strong position” in both states. Trump instead planned virtual “telerallies” across 19 states, according to CBS News, while proceeding with a Friday rally in Daytona Beach, Florida.
The cancellations came after weeks of frequent travel by Trump to encourage Republican turnout. He has repeatedly urged supporters to behave as though he were on the ballot. Republicans are seeking to retain narrow majorities in the House and Senate amid national surveys showing Democrats ahead among voters asked which party they support for Congress.
Kansas had drawn particular attention because Republican Senator Roger Marshall faced a close race in a state Trump carried by 16 percentage points in 2024. Earlier in October, analysts at the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics moved the contest into their most competitive “toss-up” category.
Asked whether the Kansas cancellation reflected fatigue from traveling, Trump rejected the suggestion and said he felt “perfect.” The White House did not provide The Hill with further details about why that event was canceled.
Trump’s Florida appearance was set to be his final in-person rally before Election Day. Vice President JD Vance, who has also campaigned extensively for Republican candidates, separately canceled a scheduled Friday visit to Minnesota, CBS News reported.
