The Milwaukee Brewers won the first World Series championship in franchise history, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 at Tropicana Field and taking the best-of-seven series four games to one.

Jacob Misiorowski pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing two hits before leaving with a right calf cramp. Rookie Cooper Pratt drove in two runs, including Milwaukee’s first on a second-inning single. David Hamilton added an RBI single in the fifth, and World Series Most Valuable Player William Contreras hit an RBI double in the sixth. Pratt’s sacrifice fly later that inning extended the lead to 4-0.

Tampa Bay scored its only run in the ninth when Chandler Simpson hit an RBI double. Trevor Megill recorded the final six outs for Milwaukee.

Pratt also set a World Series rookie record with six consecutive hits, while Jackson Chourio recorded 11 hits across the five-game series. Contreras batted .381 with four RBIs and threw out four runners attempting to steal during the series.

The championship came in the franchise’s 58th season and 44 years after its only previous World Series appearance, a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals in 1982. Milwaukee, which won an MLB-best 103 regular-season games, finished the postseason 11-2. The Brewers later celebrated the title with a parade and rally in Milwaukee.
