Russian attacks killed civilians and damaged energy infrastructure across Ukraine on Thursday and overnight, while Ukraine continued launching drones toward Russian territory.
A Russian jet-powered drone struck a busy railway platform in Dnipro where commuter and passenger trains were standing. Initial reports said at least 13 people were killed; RTÉ later put the toll at 14, with more than a dozen others wounded. Ukraine’s air force said three drones were intercepted during the daytime attack but a fourth reached the station. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the strike “horrific” and urged Ukraine’s allies to maintain sanctions on Moscow.
Separate Russian attacks killed at least five more people, according to local officials. Two 15-year-old girls were killed and more than a dozen people wounded in central Chernihiv.
Subsequent missile and drone strikes caused widespread blackouts in Dnipropetrovsk region. Regional authorities said electricity had been restored to most affected consumers, but more than 200,000 remained without power. Energy company DTEK said equipment was seriously damaged and emergency cuts were imposed in Dnipro and surrounding districts while crews worked to restore critical infrastructure.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down more than 1,000 Ukrainian drones overnight across Russian regions. Ukraine has also recently targeted Russian defense-industry facilities with drones and missiles, including plants linked to missile components, propellant materials, batteries and titanium production.
