Patrick Stewart, the Shakespearean actor best known for playing Capt. Jean-Luc Picard in “Star Trek” and Professor Charles Xavier in the “X-Men” films, has died at 86.
His “X-Men” co-stars Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Rebecca Romijn and Famke Janssen paid tribute to him. McKellen, a close friend of Stewart, said the actor “wore his heart on his sleeve,” while the group remembered their “fellow mutant” as “one of the greats.”
