Saudi Arabia said it intercepted multiple Houthi missiles and a drone this week as the Yemeni group claimed attacks on oil facilities, airports and military sites across the kingdom.
The Saudi-led coalition said two ballistic missiles aimed at Riyadh were destroyed on Tuesday. Falling debris damaged a building, a construction site and a vehicle, according to Saudi Civil Defense. The Houthis separately claimed to have struck the Ras Tanura refinery with a ballistic missile and caused a fire. Saudi authorities did not confirm that claim, though Bloomberg reported that a fire near the terminal had been contained.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree also claimed attacks on refineries at Rabigh, an Aramco facility in Abqaiq, airports in Riyadh and Dammam, and military targets in Najran and Khamis Mushait. Saudi Arabia had not confirmed those attacks.
On Friday, coalition spokesman Turki al-Malki said air defenses intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone near Mecca, as well as a cruise missile targeting western Saudi Arabia. Saree denied targeting Mecca, saying Houthi operations were directed at Saudi oil and military facilities.
The Houthis also said they repelled an advance by Saudi-aligned forces near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Houthi-affiliated media reported Saudi-led airstrikes in several parts of Yemen, while fighting and shelling continued around Taiz.
The United States is assisting Saudi Arabia with intelligence and an AI-enabled targeting platform similar to the Maven Smart System, Deutsche Welle reported, citing earlier CNN reporting. Between 100 and 200 US troops were reportedly deployed as part of a joint command supporting that effort.
