Actors Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda have filed a complaint with Hyderabad cybercrime authorities seeking an investigation into alleged fabricated content, manipulated screenshots, impersonation and coordinated harassment targeting them online.
The complaint followed criticism of the couple after their October 21 appearance on *Koffee With Karan 9*, where they discussed their relationship and marriage. A remark that Mandanna had asked Deverakonda to marry her repeatedly prompted social media users to scrutinise their relationship and describe him as a “red flag.” According to the couple’s team, subsequent posts included false narratives and unfounded divorce rumours.
Their team said it submitted links and supporting evidence identifying online publications and social media content for authorities to examine. In a statement, it distinguished legitimate criticism from presenting fabricated, manipulated or materially misleading claims as fact, and requested an inquiry into any coordinated or paid campaigns. It also said legal remedies could be pursued over individual instances of publishing or amplifying potentially unlawful material.
Before filing the complaint, both actors publicly rejected the online interpretations. Mandanna said the marriage discussion had been about giving the couple time to be certain, not a literal tally of proposals, and described some of the backlash as “bullying dressed up as feminism.” Deverakonda said they were “gloriously happy” and defended his wife in a separate social media post.
