Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta died on October 30 after suffering a head injury in a suspected fall at his Mumbai home. He was 57.
Mumbai’s Versova police registered an Accidental Death Report and said they were investigating the circumstances. Police suspect Gupta slipped on the kitchen floor and was discovered later by his family, who took him to a hospital. DCP Purshottam Karad said Gupta’s wife, two sons and a house help were at the residence but asleep when the incident occurred. Police said the family had raised no objections and that investigators had found nothing suspicious at that stage.
Gupta was known for crime dramas and action thrillers including *Aatish: Feel the Fire*, *Kaante*, *Musafir*, *Zinda*, *Shootout at Wadala* and *Kaabil*. He also produced and co-wrote *Shootout at Lokhandwala*. His career spanned more than three decades, beginning with his 1994 directorial debut, *Aatish*.
Actors and filmmakers including Sanjay Dutt, Hansal Mehta, Suniel Shetty, Kajol, Anupam Kher and Tusshar Kapoor paid tribute to Gupta. Dutt said the pair had recently discussed a sequel to *Kaante* and promised to pursue *Kaante 2* in Gupta’s memory.
Gupta’s family scheduled his last rites for October 31 at Mumbai’s Pawan Hans Crematorium.
