The Tampa Bay Rays rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 on Tuesday night, avoiding a World Series sweep and forcing Game 5.
Milwaukee took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 12th when rookie Cooper Pratt hit a tiebreaking home run off Ian Seymour. In the bottom half, Junior Caminero reached on third baseman Joey Ortiz’s throwing error before Liam Hicks singled. Pinch-runner Cedric Mullins scored the tying run on Jonny DeLuca’s single to center.
Chandler Simpson then singled to load the bases. With Milwaukee using a five-man infield, pinch-hitter Ben Williamson sent a chopper over first baseman Jake Bauers and into right field to drive in the winning run. Williamson entered the at-bat with one hit in 15 postseason at-bats.
Caminero appeared to aggravate his left foot during the rally and was replaced by Mullins, but said he expected to play in Game 5.
The victory ended Milwaukee’s eight-game winning streak and left the Brewers with a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 5 was scheduled for Wednesday night at Tropicana Field, with Jacob Misiorowski set to start for Milwaukee. Tampa Bay had not yet named its starter.
