The trailer for *Eetha*, starring Shraddha Kapoor as a Lavani and Tamasha performer inspired by Maharashtra folk artist Vithabai Narayangaonkar, was released Friday. The Laxman Utekar-directed film is scheduled to open in cinemas on December 4.
The trailer moves between large stage performances and scenes of personal hardship, betrayal and family conflict. Kapoor appears in traditional Lavani attire, including a Navvari sari that her character defends as a symbol of Maharashtrian pride and identity. Randeep Hooda, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Siddharth Jadhav also feature in the film.
Although some coverage described *Eetha* as a biopic, Utekar said at the trailer launch that the film is not intended as a tribute to Vithabai. He said it was inspired by selected events recounted in *Tamasha: Vithabaichya Aayushyacha*, a book about the performer’s life.
Kapoor said portraying the character was physically and emotionally demanding and that filming was halted after she suffered a health problem during production. The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan and Utekar, presented by Maddock Films and Kathputli Creations, and features music by Ajay-Atul. Its cast also includes Ishtiyak Khan and Anant Joshi.
