Police arrested dozens of protesters outside the US Embassy in London on Saturday during a demonstration opposing the UK government’s ban on Palestine Action.
Hundreds of people gathered for the protest, according to Al Jazeera. Among those arrested was Margaret Owen, a 94-year-old former human rights lawyer, Middle East Eye reported. Campaign group Defend Our Juries said Owen was arrested under the Terrorism Act for defying the ban.
Defend Our Juries said Saturday’s arrests brought the total number of arrests under the Terrorism Act linked to protests against the ban to more than 4,000. That figure was announced by the group and was not independently confirmed in the reports.
Owen had previously been arrested during a demonstration outside the Labour Party conference in Liverpool on September 27. She said police took her to a distant station, fingerprinted her and released her on bail with instructions to report to a police station on December 27.
