An eight-year-old girl was seriously injured after being attacked by at least one wolf inside an enclosure at a wildlife park in eastern Germany, police said.
The attack occurred Wednesday at Johannismühle wildlife park in Baruth/Mark, Brandenburg, south of Berlin. The girl was in the enclosure with two other children and a staff member when she was attacked. She was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter, while the staff member and the other children were not injured.
Police said the precise circumstances were under investigation. German newspaper Bild reported that the girl suffered head injuries and that the incident happened before the park’s scheduled 10 a.m. opening, possibly during a special visit. Authorities have not confirmed those details.
Johannismühle offers small-group animal experiences, including wolf feeding, according to its website. The park also keeps grey and Arctic wolves, brown bears and lynx.
The wildlife park has temporarily closed and is scheduled to reopen on Nov. 2, its website said, without giving further details about the attack.
