Two foreign nationals died following a suspected electrocution in the swimming pool of the Conrad Hotel in Bengaluru on Friday evening, police said.
The incident occurred at the hotel’s third-floor pool in the Ulsoor area. The victims were identified as Alexander Maximilian Theiss, 57, a German national and Lufthansa crew member, and Juraj Horvat, 45, a Slovak national who worked as an IT project manager.
Two people were injured while attempting to rescue them: Mathew Desantis, 41, an American guest at the hotel, and Rahul Tiwari, 28, a pool attendant and lifeguard employed by the hotel. Both were taken to a private hospital and were reported to be out of danger.
Police have registered a case and opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Investigators are seeking to determine how the pool area may have become electrically charged.
