The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad raided an alleged illegal mephedrone manufacturing unit in Jalaun district early Thursday, seizing 1,102.88 kg of drugs and precursor chemicals valued at more than ₹200 crore, officials said.
The unit operated from a recently established rose-water factory in Rampura village near Orai, according to The Indian Express. Officials said investigators found a functioning synthetic-drug laboratory and seized about 184 kg of semi-finished drugs, 582.2 kg in gross weight of precursor chemicals and manufacturing equipment.
Searches at two residential properties yielded another 15.44 kg of finished mephedrone, 321.24 kg in gross weight of precursor chemicals and an additional machine, officials said.
Authorities arrested Hemendra Kushwaha, 27, and Santosh, 37, on allegations that they were involved in producing the drug. The Indian Express reported that Shailendra Singh Pal, identified as the plot owner, was being sought by investigators.
Village residents said the fenced factory had opened just over a month earlier and was presented as a rose-water business. They reported seeing outside vehicles and visitors arrive regularly, while local access to the premises was restricted.
Officials said the arrested men would be questioned as investigators seek to identify the wider network involved in manufacturing and trafficking the drug.
