Kylian Mbappé scored twice as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou on Sunday, cutting the defending champions’ lead at the top of La Liga to three points.

Mbappé opened the scoring four minutes before halftime when Barcelona defender Gerard Martín’s attempted clearance deflected off the French forward and past goalkeeper Joan García. Raphinha equalized in the 61st minute, collecting Pedri’s pass before shooting through Jude Bellingham’s legs and into the far corner.

With three minutes remaining, substitute Eduardo Camavinga broke forward and supplied Mbappé, who finished into an unguarded net. The result ended Barcelona’s nine-match winning start in the league and gave Madrid only their second victory in their past eight meetings with their rivals.

Barcelona had more possession and attempts, but Madrid repeatedly played through the home side’s pressure and remained organized without the ball. Captain Federico Valverde again filled in at right-back despite carrying an injury, earning praise from coach José Mourinho.

Mourinho, in his first Clásico since returning to Madrid for a second spell, urged his players to keep the result in perspective. “Real Madrid doesn’t play to win at Camp Nou,” he said. “Real Madrid plays to win championships. We have to keep going.”

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said his team “missed the freshness” after a demanding schedule and needed to recover and respond to the defeat.
