US President Donald Trump said Saturday that his administration was examining allegations that a Chinese intelligence asset targeted Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang, while expressing support for the chipmaker’s leader.

“We’re going to check it out very closely,” Trump told reporters at his Florida residence. He described Jensen Huang as “a great, brilliant person” and said he hoped the executive would be safe.

The comments followed a New York Times report that US intelligence agencies concluded Alice Huang, also known as Huang Le, was passing information to Beijing. The Chinese citizen has been a senior executive at Singapore-based data-center company Megaspeed, an Nvidia customer and cloud partner. US agencies reportedly monitored her communications and identified Jensen Huang as one of her contacts, though the report presented no evidence that he knew of any alleged intelligence activity.

It remains unclear what information Alice Huang may have provided to Chinese authorities or how valuable it was. The Times also reported that Megaspeed had faced US scrutiny over suspicions it helped Chinese companies obtain access to advanced Nvidia chips despite export restrictions.

China rejected the espionage allegations. Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun called the report “groundless speculation” intended to smear the country.

Nvidia said Jensen Huang’s interactions with Alice Huang were routine meetings with a regional customer. The company said such customers receive ordinary business information, not sensitive trade secrets or national-security information. Nvidia also said allegations that Megaspeed smuggled chips into China had previously been investigated and debunked.
