Authorities are investigating a possible new ransom note related to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.
The department and the FBI Guthrie Task Force recently learned of the note and related social media comments. Investigators are working to determine whether it is credible, and officials have not disclosed its contents or how it was discovered.
Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared Feb. 1 from her home outside Tucson, Arizona. In July, authorities released two earlier ransom notes sent to a Tucson television station shortly after she vanished. The first, sent Feb. 2, claimed she was safe but scared and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency for her release. The second, sent Feb. 6, claimed she had died shortly after being kidnapped.
Authorities have not said whether Guthrie is alive, and no suspects have been arrested. The FBI previously released surveillance video showing a masked person who investigators said appeared to tamper with a camera on Guthrie’s front porch and obscure it with a plant. Her family has continued to seek information through videos posted on social media.
