Russia launched heavy missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, killing at least 20 people and damaging residential buildings and energy infrastructure, according to Ukrainian authorities and Reuters.
In the northern city of Pryluky, a Russian missile hit a five-storey residential building, killing 14 people, including four children, regional officials said. Fifty others were injured, including seven children. Authorities also reported two deaths in Kyiv and two in the central Poltava region.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia fired 70 missiles as well as drones in one of its largest attacks on Ukraine, with energy infrastructure among the principal targets. Ukraine’s air force said air-defence units intercepted 161 aerial targets and identified Kyiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv among the main areas attacked. Residents in Kyiv sheltered in underground metro stations as explosions were heard across the capital.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said it conducted a “massive strike” against Ukrainian military-industrial facilities using land-, sea- and air-launched weapons and drones. It claimed the targets included sites connected to the production and storage of Ukrainian cruise missiles and medium- and long-range drones.
Zelensky said Ukraine also struck two Russian oil facilities and a military training ground in the Perm, Samara and Astrakhan regions, describing the attacks as responses to Russian strikes.
