Russia and Ukraine carried out major overnight attacks, with authorities on both sides reporting deaths, injuries and damage to homes and infrastructure.
Ukraine said Russia launched 130 drones, 48 cruise missiles and an unspecified number of ballistic missiles, killing at least 20 people, including children. Fourteen people were killed when a missile struck a five-storey residential building in Pryluki, Ukrainian emergency services said. Officials reported six other deaths in Kyiv, Dnipro, Kremenchuk and Oleksandriya. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said energy infrastructure was a key target. Russia’s Defence Ministry said it struck Ukrainian military-industrial, port and ship-repair facilities.
Russian officials, meanwhile, said Ukrainian forces launched hundreds of drones toward Russian territory. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 650 were directed at the Moscow region, while Russia’s Defence Ministry reported nearly 900 interceptions across multiple regions, occupied Crimea and the Sea of Azov. Moscow regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov said two men, aged 71 and 20, were killed and nine people were injured. He said 47 houses and four apartments were damaged, while aviation authorities temporarily restricted operations at Moscow’s four airports.
Separately, a Turkish-owned commercial vessel sank in Romanian waters after a fire, killing two people and injuring another. Romanian authorities did not identify the cause, but Zelenskyy said two Russian drones struck the corn-carrying ship. Eleven crew members were rescued.
